With its origins dating back to the 8th century, Hakko Denshin Ryu JuJutsu is steeped in Samurai tradition. As a symbol of that tradition, the Samurai mon( or family crest) of the Takeda Clan is still proudly displayed by several styles of martial art such as Daitoryu, Takeda Ryu as well Hakko Denshin Ryu. Those familiar with the Takeda tradition will immediately recognize the mon featured on the front of "Hakko Ring". On each side of the mon is Japanese Kanji with the words "Ha" and "Ko" spelling Hakko meaning "eighth light."

Hakko Denshin Ryu was founded by Soke (founder) Michael J. LaMonica who studied directly under Ryuho Okuyama, founder of Hakko Ryu Ju JuJutsu. Soke LaMonica remains extremely active in the development and preservation of this profound and highly effective style of Ju Jutsu.
